According to a new study from Quality Planning – a firm specialised in information provision for the insurance industry – drivers of Hummers receive almost five times as many more traffic tickets than the average driver. Researchers explain this difference with the mistaken feeling of invincibility induced by the Hummer’s elevated driving position. “The sense of power that Hummer drivers derive from their vehicle may be directly correlated with the number of violations they incur, or perhaps Hummer drivers, by virtue of their driving position, are less likely to notice road hazards, signs, pedestrians and other drivers,” said Raj Bhat, the president of Quality Planning. This comes as no surprise to Carbusters – driving a Hummer in 2009 definitely shows a complete lack of attention to the surrounding environment, streetwise or otherwise.
